About Me
My name is Evan White. I am a Meteorology major at the University of Oklahoma. I am also pursuing a Master's in Data Science and minoring in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Chemistry. I am from Northeast Ohio. I was a pathways intern at the National Weather Service Office of Observations from August 2022 to May 2023, working on correcting the GOES-18 Band 07 Barcode Artifact and creating a machine learning model to predict Tropical Cyclone intensity from satellite imagery. I was also a Lapenta intern at the National Weather Service Meteorological Development Lab from June 2024 to August 2024, working on developing machine learning models (XGBoost and U-Nets) which used HRRR data to predict the probability of lightning across CONUS. I am currently working on developing random forest models which predict severe convective hazards (tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds) from Machine Learning Weather Prediction models (Graphcast, Pangu Weather, & Fourcastnet) and using Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) with deep learning models trained on high resolution simulations to better understand low-level updraft strengthening in supercells, a precursor to tornadogenesis.
